That player is Charles Hemminger, architect, who specializes in adaptive re-use projects of once-industrial properties throughout the Bay Area, and architect for both Heath and Tartine. The loss of industry, however, also created opportunities. Three years later, Heath opened the doors to its tile factory and showroom.

From first planning till August 2016, the journey from industrial laundry to a new hub for manufacturing and gathering in San Francisco’s Mission took five years. Heath San Francisco opened its doors in 2012, with the tile factory in full-swing by 2013. Planning and early construction for their new space began in 2014.
