Traditionally the most popular materials for patios have been natural stone and concrete slabs for many years, but recently porcelain has seen a huge increase. Secondly, the tiles cannot be installed in the same way as paving slabs – this is because porcelain is non-porous and does not adhere to a base of sand or cement.

Unlike natural stone or concrete paving, porcelain tiles need to be fixed using adhesive onto a solid base and not onto sand. The tiles must be laid into a solid bed of a suitable polymer modified cement based adhesive. Once the tiles are installed the joints can be grouted using a flexible grout suitable for outdoor use.
