Since then, his work’s been shown at the Salon di Mobile in Milan, and at the London Design Fair. Based in Oakland, sculptor Julian works mostly in wood, and uses traditional carving and furniture making techniques to explore the space between sculptural form and functional object. Tell us how your love affair with ceramics started. It wasn’t until my family and I visited British ceramist Rupert Spira , that I realized that ceramics was what I wanted to do. I started doing ceramics with Rupert and that’s the only formal training I did. Then what? . We also have periodic events in the gallery space.

When we first laid eyes on Jacob May Design’s exquisite cutting boards , we were struck by how the beauty of the woodwork was integral to the boards’ design and durability: using end grain wood makes for a gorgeous patchwork pattern and makes for a hardy cutting surface. The extended Nomad Collection is a perfect example of that.”
