Other luxury elements, like stone tile and tops, have gotten more widespread and affordable, as have stainless steel appliances and induction cooktops. Soft-close doors on cabinets are also relatively standard.

I recently attended Coverings, another major tile and stone show, in Las Vegas. Oxidized stones came on strong this year. I also saw a nice selection of colorful leaf mosaics around the show floor. It was a very good expo, with some of my favorite American, Spanish and Italian manufacturers in attendance.

Her blends of color, texture and shape are breathtaking. I tell clients that if a color combination works in nature, it will work in their kitchen or bathroom, too. Grey, white, black remain the top three colors in that order for both floor and walls with greige (gray-beige) following as a close fourth depending on the collection’s design inspiration. The complimentary colors of choice have shifted from the oceanic blues, teals and turquoise that were solidly in place for the past 2 years.

I discovered this toaster oven is large enough for my 13×9-inch quarter-sheet pans, 11×7-inch and 8×8-inch baking dishes, 12-inch round tiers, 12-cup standard muffin tins, 13-inch pizza stone, all sorts of things (though not the 13x9x2-inch Pyrex baking dish; the handles make it just a fraction of an inch too long).
