Each winner pursued and successfully achieved LEED certification, the world’s most widely adopted green rating system.

There are two garages on this house, and both of them are disconnected from the main house (because this is a LEED Gold or better house, final paperwork has not been completed). It isn’t an issue now, but it could be in the future so this has been a consideration since the earliest design schemes were presented.

Early on in my career I became involved in my local AIA component – the Dallas Chapter AIA – and over the last 15 years I have served and chaired almost every major committee. In 2010, I was recognized for my efforts and was presented with the AIA Dallas Young Architect of the Year.

The entire rear elevation is floor-to-ceiling glass – very expansive views were always an important consideration in the design of the house. The site falls off fairly steeply towards the back … well, it’s steep for Dallas, Texas. Moving around the rear yard looking back towards the house.

When you add these costs, with the costs of other organizations and certifications we are encouraged to participate in and obtain USGBC/LEED, AIA, etc., It is not (and should not try to be) an endorsement of your superior design skills. I think it would be helpful to compare these changes with average income for the profession.
