Another project that we are working on is the renovation and refurbishment of a 1980’s era speculation built office building in Dallas. It is a two-story building elevated above a ground-level parking deck, with a stucco exterior finish and ribbon windows around the entire building.

The coolest part about it is that it allows for an indoor-outdoor living style with a wonderful deck. The cool thing about it is that you can add a roof deck or a porch area. The wooden deck that seems to extend from the house floors features built in lights and the additional awning and roof increase sun protection.

There is a fairly sizable deck that is cantilevered off the back here; eventually there will be guard rails that ring the edge so if any of you were concerned that someone would fall to their death sprained ankle, rest easy. The site falls off fairly steeply towards the back … well, it’s steep for Dallas, Texas.

Inspired by historical fire lookouts, the retired couple decided to move to a 160-acre parcel of land and build their own fire-lookout home overlooking Oregon’s Umpqua National Forest — quite the contrast from their large single-family home in Dallas. The couple created a shower on their deck and installed a spring-fed hot tub.
