The designers focused on creating corresponding intimate spaces and voids: the bed rooms and study are intimate and smaller in scale, while the areas for entertaining are plunging and dramatic, utilizing the full height of the warehouse walls. In a former life, this residence was once a 250 square meter brick warehouse.

The 2017 Life of an Architect Playhouse Design Competition had its first round of judging last Friday – and it was probably the most difficult process we’ve experienced so far. We had over 1,100 registrations representing 85 different countries – and the overall quality of the designs is also improving.

The home is divided into three quarters: the original Edwardian structure houses the parents’ zone, completed with master bedroom, bathroom and study. This 240-square-meter extension was built in 2016. The second floor of the extension has the children’s bedrooms, and a balcony overlooking the garden.
