Painterly textures: This porcelain is characterized by qualities of color, stroke, and texture; and was a strong theme this year. A brushstroke texture on longer plank porcelain tiles.

Regular readers of Tile Addict will have noted my comments on the growing use of coloured grout as an integral part of new tile displays at Coverings and other recent international trade shows. However, the true reveal does not occur until the tiles are installed … at the moment when the chosen coloured grout joint is complete.

Here’s the trade group’s take on what’s hot for ceramic tile in 2018: Monochromatic. Accent tones of choice for 2018 are denim blues (ranging from steely grey-blue to deep and saturated over-dyed indigos) and deep wine bottle or British racing greens. Vives Doney (floor), Vives Mosaico Necci Blanco (wall).

This is the time of year when tile manufacturers start to inform Tile Addict of their plans for Cersaie 2018. Gauged ceramic panels, sintered stone surfaces – call them what you will – these new continuous-pressed porcelain behemoths are a great opportunity … and a serious challenge.
