The standard go-to for laying tile is usually a one third offset or stacked pattern using one size of tile. If you don’t mind getting a bit creative, you can create a beautiful and organic look by using multiple sizes of tiles. A simple one or two tile pattern creates a more structured look.

The field tile is 2″x6″ which is slightly skinnier than a traditional 3″x6″ subway tile. This allows for the niches to fit perfectly and avoids the need for them to be surrounded by awkward cut tile pieces. Also, it’s tempting to use a contrasting or accent tile in the back of the niches.
