With imported materials from Italy, Mexico, and Spain, the residence was custom built to compliment the historical aesthetics found throughout the Mediterranean region, along with influences from the Spanish. Aesthetically, this element is enriched by ceramic tiles saved from a Spanish mission in Mexico.

What is encaustic painting? Encaustic painting involves beeswax, resin and pigments in varying combinations. One of my paintings, SurfAcing, 2014 12″X12″ Encaustic mixed media on wood boards. Encaustic painting predates oil painting and was used to create portraits on mummy casings dating back to 100BC in Egypt.

The Food I’ve Been Searching For: Nido I went to Sayulita last May, which was my first time visiting Mexico. Shipping container doors painted an orangey-red adorn the walls. While I was there, I ate food that I have been thinking about ever since. The sun and heat seem to infuse everything with flavor, color, and spice.

Week End House 2 by Jure Kotnik Arhitekt is a fun-looking structure made of stacked shipping containers painted in black with funky pink dots. Many like to simply paint them though. Shipping containers aren’t just for the private homes though.

Charlie Burris When I was in deep Mexico we found lots of killer bees that had taken over all the hives. Once the foam is dry cut off the excess and spray paint the old bee hole dark brown. I was told not to wear dark clothes as they seemed to be attracted to them.
