The True Apartment by SVOYA Studio is a private modern home located in Kiev, Ukraine. The designers aimed to develop a peaceful refuge for the inhabitants to contrast the hectic rhythm of a bustling metropolis. According to the designers, the customer wanted to convert the three-room apartment into a home with just two interiors: a spacious area that combined the kitchen and the living/dining room, and a large bedroom with lots of storage space and a glass-enclosed shower.

It started with second-hand tiles found in São Paulo in 2014 but she has since made use of tiles from Soviet-era buildings in her native Ukraine, decorated a mannequin with materials from Chernobyl, and most recently has used tiles from an old Venetian hotel to craft her masterpieces. Ukrainian artist Zhanna Kadyrova is re-purposing tiles in a way you have to see to believe.

The CUBE House by Yakusha Design Studio was built utilizing an optical illusion — the Cube shape makes the home appear much smaller from the outside, reducing the impact on the landscape while still allowing plenty of interior living space. The project — named 9th Pearl — was imagined as a bachelor pad with plenty of rooms for guests and entertaining. The living area has an intimate feel, thanks to the floor-to-ceiling window blinds and a well-chosen color palette: “In this home the deep, rich colors are the ultimate in masculine elegance,” the designers said.

Ukraine-based Alex Obraztsov completed the design of a contemporary penthouse in Kiev’s city center. The concept behind the High Lounge project— “Life is wisely thrifty: all new things are made of old ones”— is inspired by a poem belonging to Russian writer Konstantin Forfanov. Discovered on site, the original arch roofing system was exposed and adds function to the space — aside from extending the living areas, it works as a space divider as well.

The 1,938-square-foot home features an array of interesting materials and textures, most of which are organic. There’s so much white that even the subtlest of grays pops. This apartment, on the 10th floor of a building in Lviv, Ukraine, was envisioned by architects Andriy Hir and Oksana Sinkevych of Formaline Architecture and Design. Integrating city views was the main request of the clients, a couple who wanted to maximize the space in their 538-square-foot crib. The owners also sought more storage space and a private sleeping area. Their budget dictated that the project team go with a minimalist and simple design.

Throughout the space, fixed wooden screens made from American walnut serve as dividers between the homes more public and more private zones.
