Why You Might Want Porcelain Slab Countertops

I first spotted porcelain slab countertops in a European cabinet showroom in West Hollywood, either in 2009 or 2010. I didn’t know what they were, but I loved the sleek look. Fast forward to my first European trade show, LivingKitchen, in January 2011 and I spotted more of them around the show floor. In fact, one manufacturer had a slab set up on a stand and let visitors stand and even jump on it. I did. It didn’t break. I was impressed! I included them in my first and second books.

DCW combines the Kitchen & Bath Industry Show with the International Builders Show , both large events by themselves, tremendous together, as many feet will attest! It has become one of Las Vegas’ largest conventions – no small thing, since Las Vegas is one of the country’s largest convention cities.

Here’s the trade group’s take on what’s hot for ceramic tile in 2018: Monochromatic. Grey, white, black remain the top three colors in that order for both floor and walls with greige (gray-beige) following as a close fourth depending on the collection’s design inspiration.

This was one I really enjoyed. In addition to showing almost endless acres of tile, Cersaie also offers a large selection of ceramic sinks, tubs, toilets and other bathware. One of the booths I enjoyed visiting in my last (free) day at Cersaie , Italy’s annual bathware and tile show, was Villeroy & Boch. As their products are widely available in the US, I was somewhat familiar with the brand. Founded in 1748 in Germany as a ceramics company, they might be best known here as a tableware manufacturer. They’re much more, and their booth showed that well.
