Miami, FL January 2016 – Five lucky tile enthusiasts are heading to Spain thanks to the Tile of Spain “Passport to Creativity” contest. After graduating with a degree in architecture from the University of Tokyo, Kengo Kuma completed a two-year postgraduate program as a visiting scholar at Columbia University in New York, before returning to Tokyo to complete his Ph.D. Izaskun Chinchilla studied architecture at Madrid Polytechnic University’s School of Architecture.

Pablo Pita Arquitectos developed Boavista, a single family house renovation, in 2016. The kitchen is the main corridor, with a movable island in the middle, giving the space flexibility. The kitchen opens onto an interior courtyard, separated by a skin of wooden shutters offering different layers of shade.

To make things even more interesting, I was able to get Houzz, the National AIA, and the fine folks over at SketchUp involved, and that is a lot of chefs in the kitchen. Judging a playhouse design competition is a lot harder than it sounds. In all, I had almost 30 judges – ranging in age from 6 to almost 80 years old participate.
